Synopsis
Anatols Imermanis was a Latvian crime writer and a poet during Soviet occupation. He could call himself a successful, financially stable soviet writer. But he wanted more –to be free. Free West, especially Paris, was a life-long dream for Imermanis, but he was never allowed to leave Soviet Union. So he created his own personal Paris –bohemian lifestyle, sexual freedom, ignoring all puritan norms of soviet world. He died alone without fulfilling his dream about Paris. But death was not a reason to give up –his last will was to be cremated and his ashes to be dispersed in Paris red light quartiers. In the film Paris and Red light district becomes more like a symbol. Symbol for freedom!
This becomes the mission of the main character on screen, a poet and a soulmate Aleksandrs Zapols who takes up a role of investigator. Investigator is going to fulfil the last wish of Anatols Imermanis 34 years after death. This turns out to be like a crime novel. Nobody really knows where the urn with ashes is. When urn is found, turns out that Paris today is nothing like Imermanis imagined. Local poet, a former sex-worker, and a striptease dancer help us find the old Paris and give peace to the old bohemian, who still manages to play one of his jokes, proving that death is not the end of freedom.
